Use the Microsoft Authenticator app to receive notifications on your smartphone or tablet to verify your identity when prompted for Multifactor Authentication.
Step 1. Download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app
Visit the Apple app store or Google play store on your device and install the Microsoft Authenticator app. Alternatively, visit aka.ms/authapp and download the Microsoft Authenticator app.
Step 2. Add your account to the app
- On your desktop, visit https://aka.ms/mysecurityinfo
- Click + Add sign-in Method
- Choose Authenticator App from the drop down list.
- On your mobile device that has Authenticator installed, open the Microsoft Authenticator app
- Click the + sign to add a new account (you can also use this app to secure other accounts you have, including Facebook, Gmail, and Amazon).
- Choose WORK OR SCHOOL ACCOUNT
- On your computer at the "START BY GETTING THE APP" prompt, click NEXT
- On your computer at the SETUP YOUR ACCOUNT prompt, click NEXT
- On your mobile device, click Scan a QR code
- On your mobile device, point the camera at the QR code on your computer screen. Click NEXT on your computer.
- On your mobile device, click APPROVE.
- If you want to change your default sign-in method to Authenticators, click CHANGE to the right of the DEFAULT SIGN IN METHOD at the top of the screen and choose MICROSOFT AUTHENTICATOR - NOTIFICATION
